Wine is a drink that can not only be drunk, but also assessed. To assess a wine, one chooses and serves it in such a way that it does not alter its characteristics. We choose the appropriate glassware and check to see if the wine is at the ideal temperature. We observe its colour before gently inhaling its aromas, and then take the liquid into the mouth. From there, we let the wine roll over the tongue and through every part of the mouth, noting the sensations that occur at the sides, tip and back of the tongue before we swallow.
Though wine can be appreciated on its own, some say that it only reaches its true potential when paired with food and good friends. Whatever brings you enjoyment, wine can only make it better – so let’s raise a glass to the start of a lifelong adventure in pursuit of one of life’s greatest pleasures.
