Traveling to Douro in style
Quinta da Pacheca is one of the oldest wine estates in Douro region, and one of the first properties to bottle wine under its own label. We love Q. Pacheca’s wines, so naturally we were very excited when receiving the invitation to go for a tour and meet the people that work with so much passion over there.
Since Quinta’s hotel was fully booked, we stayed at a nearby hotel (Folgosa do Douro) right next Douro river margins and in front of the acclaimed restaurant DOC from chef Rui Paula. Note that when visiting Douro, you should spend time (and money) in discovering the region’s unique gastronomy.

At Quinta da Pacheca, we were received by the wine expert and manager, Maria Serpa Pimentel, who was very kind to show us the property and explain step by step the different stages of wine making while giving us a chance to absorb the historical ambience of this unique place. After the tour where we covered the vinification center and the cellar, it was time to chill out with a bicycle run through the estate vineyards, for sure the best way to discover and enjoy the beautiful landscape dominated by Douro River. It was also a great exercise to open appetite for the lunch held in Quinta’s restaurant. There, you can feel the right balance between sophistication and regional culture both in decoration and in food served. My choice was great: “bacalhau com broa” (cod fish) with Quinta da Pacheca fresh white wine…perfect matching.
Suggestion: if you book in advance, ask for the tables near the window that allow you to enjoy the views from the vineyards and Douro River.
Net, a great place for everyone, appropriated both for “wine lovers” and “layman”.
