Join Naiara, your local Sherpa, on a fulfilling experience through the Basque culinary tradition! You’ll take part in a hands-on cooking class at one of the most important Basque gastronomic societies. An expert local chef will join you on a visit to the La Bretxa food market, where you will be able to chat with local vendors and choose fresh ingredients for the class. Then, it’s time to learn how to prepare classic Basque dishes, such as cod in pil pil sauce and fried anchovies and pair them with great Spanish wines. Along the way, Naiara will make sure you get all the fascinating stories about Basque culture and cuisine.

Meet Naiara, Your Native Sherpa
Naiara went with journalism as her chosen career, but also used her love of all things culinary when she landed a job with a food PR agency in London. Naiara quickly learned the major role that Spain plays in the food and wine business, which is why she decided to return to her native San Sebastian to lead guests on wonderful food and wine tours in the city.
We started the morning with a tour at the food market. Elena and Yakoba have great knowledge about the city, history, local produce and food traditions. We moved on to the old part of the city, with the greatest concentration og pintxos bars. After a few tastings, Yakoba took us to the venue of the cooking class. It was truly a great experience to be in a “sociedad gastronomica” club house. Yakoba is a great teacher. We learned a lot from him at this session. Fun market visit and cooking class
We had an excellent time visiting the Bretxa Market and our private cooking lesson with Chef Ben. Chef Ben took our individual levels of cooking experience and really catered to them. The lesson was very hands-on and my husband and I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I would recommend this experience to anyone travelling to the area.

A morning with Chef Bendur in San Sebastian
Our market visit and cook along with Chef Ben was a huge success, thank you very much. Our morning started off at the market, Chef Ben pointed out the many fish varieties of the area, he showed how to choose the best fish and even introduced us to his favourite vendors. Next stop for fresh vegetables and then on to a delightful little bakery. Then it was off to hIs Kitchen Studio, very cute and clean. We had a grand time helping him cook our lunch, eating and sipping wine along the way. Some of the dishes were very new to us, which made it an exciting learning experience. Should not be missed!

Fabulous fun day cooking in San Sebastian
We had an amazing time looking around the local food market and then cooking with a local chef. He was an excellent chef and extremely knowledgeable about the local area. Food we cooked was delicious and gave us lots of ideas to try and home. From the time we booked until we received the email with our recipes the customer service was also perfect. Highly recommend.
